The Schumann Singers began in 1993 when a group of Merritt Schumann’s voice students urged him to set up a concert to challenge their musicianship in public. The first few programs were informal and were presented to various community organizations as well as in neighboring towns. From this core of musicians the choir has grown in number and musical capability. Today, the choir consists of twenty-six to thirty-two members and is capable of performing all but the very largest choral works. Our constant goal is to deliver the most beautiful choral sound possible.

Our Choir has been fortunate to have several distinguished directors in its eighteen year history. We invite you to visit each of them on his own page. Click on each name to learn more.

Did You Know? Contrary to what many think, the Schumann Singers are not named for the great Romantic Period composer, Robert Schumann!

We have our very own Schumann - Merritt Schumann who organized and nurtured the choir from its origin in 1993.
